Greetings, Fellow Readers,
IMPORTANT INFO: Meeting Time Changes for Both Pages Book Clubs in February !!
Pages will reduce store hours (11am - 5pm) in February, and the owners are working toward holding all events, including book clubs, during store hours.
The January 28th meeting of Blue Sky Book Club is still scheduled promptly at 7pm, with The Help as the selected work. At that meeting we will discuss a change of time... or day... (or perhaps venue) to fit Pages store hours requirement.
The February 25th book selection is We Need to Talk About Kevin.
Contact Pages if you want us to order or hold a book for you. Book club selections are 10% off!
Thanks all, Sanwa@PagesNewAndRare.com 480-575-7220

Blue Sky Book Club met December 3, 2009 to discuss Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig. Even those of us who hadn't finished the book realized how it has a place in literary history. Some group members had even researched the author's life and the symbolic meanings of many portions of the work. One of our most detailed meetings!
Please note that the schedule was modified, so the next selections for this club are:
The Help by Kathryn Stockett -- Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 7pm at Pages
We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver --Thursday, February 25, 2010; 7pm at Pages.

Hello Fellow Readers,
What a special experience we had chatting online with The Art of Racing in the Rain author Garth Stein. He seemed so down-to-earth, yet very bright and insightful!

>Surprisingly, the discussion of Crime and Punishment on August 27th was really riveting! What a lively group and a great turn out! The group not only dissected Dostoevsky's fragmented thoughts, but resolved next meeting's conflict by changing the date to Tuesday, September 22nd at 7pm at Pages. We will discuss Beneath a Marble Sky : A Love Story by John Shors.
Thursday, October 22, at 7pm: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein; Location: Pages?

>Blue Sky Book Club – to meet August 27
Don't forget to read Crime & Punishment by Dostoevsky for this week's meeting to be held at Pages Bookstore (It's bound to make us better persons, I hope!) If you haven't read it, please join us anyway... We all learn from each other! This Thursday, August 27th at 7:15pm.
September 24th Selection: Beneath a Marble Sky by John Shors. (We have a few on hand at Pages for discounted price of $12.60 plus tax - email or call to hold a copy.)
IMPORTANT: Due to the Taste of Cave Creek event planned for Thursday September 24th, at Stagecoach Village, the Book Club would be better held elsewhere on that date.
Pages Bookstore will be open to the public; noisy and busy! I'm scheduled to work that evening, so won't be able to attend club. Blue Sky Restaurant will likely still be closed, so other suggestions are welcome. Sandi Pearson said many book clubs meet at members' homes, or at coffeehouses, etc. Any ideas? We'll discuss at this August meeting!
October 22 selection: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. --Sanwa at Pages (sanwa@pagesnewandrare.com)
######################################>During the meeting held at Pages Bookstore on Thursday, May 28, 2009, we discussed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The book received a unanimous thumbs up!
We agreed to take a summer break, and meet again in late August at Pages Bookstore. Books were chosen for the following months:
August 27, 2009 Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
September 24, 2009 Beneath a Marble Sky by John Shors
October 22, 2009 The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
Some members are interested in starting a bit earlier, at 7pm. Will that work?

>Because the Blue Sky Restaurant Loft is becoming too warm this season, our Book Club meeting place has temporarily changed to: Pages Bookstore (address and phone below)
The store is in the StageCoach Village in Cave Creek, on the north side of Cave Creek Rd, a few blocks east of Harold’s Restaurant, and a few blocks west of Tom Darlington Rd (Scottsdale Rd.) The main entryway has no left turn for eastbound traffic, so you must pass it by and take the next street (Galloway) left (north) to the side entrance of the center.
Our meeting date and time is as usual: this Thursday, May 28th at 7:15pm; I will lead the discussion about our delightful book selection: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. We also need to choose next book selection.
Looking forward to our meeting! -- Sanwa at Pages
